When you were a kid, did you ever play Slug Bug in the car, yelling out “Slug Bug, no punch backs” anytime you saw a Volkswagen Beetle on the road? The Beetle might be the most iconic Volkswagen in history, but it’s far from the only Volkswagen you’ll find on the road today. As your Ohio Volkswagen dealer, the team here at Eastside Volkswagen is here to show you everything Volkswagen has to offer, specifically its SUV lineup that stretches from the all-new Taos and ID.4 to staples like the Atlas, Atlas Cross Sport, and Tiguan. Which model will grab your attention? It’s time to find out.

2022 Taos

Volkswagen extends its SUV lineup with the addition of the all-new 2022 Taos. The Taos offers Ohio buyers an affordable SUV that’s laden with innovative technology, modern conveniences, and sophisticated details that establish a strong foundation for the brand’s family of SUVs. So, what does the Taos have to offer?

Despite being the smallest SUV model in the Volkswagen lineup, the Taos is remarkably spacious, responsive, and agile. Powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, the Taos churns out 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque for quick acceleration. This doesn’t come at the cost of efficiency, with the Taos getting an EPA-estimated 28 MPG in the city and 36 MPG on the highway, which means fewer stops for fuel and more time and money for adventure across the Buckeye State.*

The interior of the Taos is replete with cutting-edge technology and bold design details. The Volkswagen Digital Cockpit is standard across the lineup and gives you access to your smartphone, navigation, SiriusXM with 360L, and Car-Net, the latter of which equips the Taos with a WiFi hotspot. The technology in the Taos extends beyond the center touchscreen display to a host of advanced safety and driver-assist tools like semi-autonomous IQ.DRIVE technology. These features add to the value of the Taos and make it an attractive option for those looking for a compact SUV that’s fun to drive, efficient, sophisticated, and incredibly smart.

2022 Tiguan

The 2022 Tiguan is a remarkable compact SUV that effortlessly blends practicality with style, versatility, and affordability. Starting at an affordable price, the Tiguan is designed to meet your every need with a spacious cabin that can comfortably haul passengers across three rows of seats or easily haul groceries, luggage, camping gear, and more with its 73.5 cubic feet of cargo room. Volkswagen ensures this versatility and practicality don’t come at the cost of style, with the best-selling Tiguan boasting an updated front end with LED headlights that add to its European aesthetic.

Just because the Tiguan is practical doesn’t mean it lacks power or capability. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and churns out 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. The Driving Mode Selection in the Tiguan gives you greater control over this power, allowing you to select between Normal, Sport, Eco, and Individual modes based on the driving condition. However, the real capability comes when you opt for the Tiguan with the next-generation 4Motion All-wheel-drive System. Aside from powering all four wheels, this system adds Active Control drive modes like On-Road, Off-Road, Custom Off-Road, and Snow–the last of which can come in handy during our Ohio winters.

The all-wheel-drive system is designed to constantly monitor the terrain and the movement of the wheels to minimize wheel slippage and maximize efficiency. When the Tiguan is coasting, the system drives the front wheels and decouples the rear wheels to save fuel. However, when the system senses a potential loss in traction, it immediately sends torque to the wheel or wheels that need it most. As this occurs, the system relies on the model’s center differential and its Electronic Stability Control system to stabilize the SUV and give you greater control.

2022 Atlas Cross Sport and 2022 Atlas

True siblings in the Volkswagen SUV lineup, the 2022 Atlas Cross Sport takes everything you love about the three-row Atlas and puts it on a midsize platform at a lower price. The Atlas Cross Sport offers seating for five and 77.8 cubic feet of cargo volume, while the Atlas has seating for seven and 96.8 cubic feet of cargo volume. Size proves to be the only major difference between these two SUVs.

Volkswagen gives you a choice between two capable engines on both the 2022 Atlas Cross Sport and the 2022 Atlas. The standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission to deliver 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. This power isn’t mutually exclusive with efficiency, with both FWD models getting an EPA-estimated 21 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway.** Opting for the beefier 3.6-liter VR-6 engine boosts this power to 276 horses and 266 lb-ft of torque with only a minimal impact on fuel consumption; the Atlas Cross Sport has a combined EPA-estimated rating of 20 MPG, while the Atlas has an EPA-Estimated rating for 19 MPG combined.***

The Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport also share the same standard and available features. The two models come equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, a center touchscreen display with Car-Net and WiFi capability, and advanced safety and driver-assist tools like Rear Traffic Alert, a Blind Spot Monitor, and Front Assist. Upgrading the SUVs is easy with options like 20-inch or 21-inch wheels that add to the SUV’s height and rugged stance. You’ll also find plenty of luxuries like leather seating and heated rear seats, as well as conveniences like remote start and an Easy Open rear hatch that makes accessing the cargo area easier even when your hands are full.

2022 ID.4

The 2022 ID.4 marks another new addition to the Volkswagen SUV lineup and has the industry abuzz since it’s the automaker’s first all-electric SUV and its first global EV. The exceptional price tag makes adopting an all-electric lifestyle affordable whether you opt for the entry-level Pro or the top-tier Pro S with Gradient, the latter of which adds larger wheels and exclusive design features. Every trim offers the same high-tech features you’ll find throughout the Volkswagen fleet from IQ.DRIVE to Car-Net.

As far as power, the all-electric ID.4 is a surprising powerhouse on wheels. The compact SUV is powered by an 82 kWh battery that delivers 201 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of near-instant torque on rear-wheel-drive models. All-wheel-drive models see a significant jump in power and capability, with the two electric motors churning out 295 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. This increase in power doesn’t drastically impact the ID.4 model’s range, with rear-wheel-drive models rated for up to 260 miles while all-wheel-drive models have a 250-mile rating.

As expected, Volkswagen makes recharging the ID.4 easy with its CCS socket, which allows you to charge the SUV at home or on the road. Further saving you money, the ID.4 comes with three years of unlimited fast charging at Electrify America charging stations throughout the country. There is even an Electrify America charging station equipped with four 350 kW DC fast chargers right up the road in Mentor, just off I-90 Exit 193.

What Will You Choose?

Did you know that Volkswagen translates to “people’s car”? Nothing embodies that more than the Volkswagen family of SUVs. That lineup proves that Volkswagen is attuned to its customers and their needs, whether that means getting behind the wheel of the agile Taos, the sophisticated Tiguan, the spacious Atlas or Atlas Cross Sport, or the all-electric ID.4. There’s truly something for everyone under the Volkswagen marquee, which leaves only one final question: which Volkswagen SUV will you choose when you visit us at Eastside Volkswagen?
